Definitely turn off your TV. Burn-in is less of an issue than it used to be in newer TVs, but why take a chance?

I turn off the TV and the xbox controller.

Yes, but with the controller turned off the game disconnects me after some time, idk why, so I just put it on the cable and let it stay on.

Mine gives me a pop up saying it disconnected but I am still continuing my activity behind it.

Might be a power saver setting on xbox you missed.

Is it even safe to leave the xbox on all night? (Expensive to surely)

Well the Xbox one was designed to be always on, some people even use it to watch their cable  and tv through. So in theory yes.

Since I have a One X I feel fine as it does not heat up like my OG One did.

As long as your character is finish/processing you will stay online unless you get disconnected due to an error or server issue.

I managed to process roughly 200 corn into flour but was disconnected soon after my character stopped doing anything.

mines the xbox x too, but theres a huge difference to watching tv and gaming on it.
how often have you left it on afk in the game and for how long?

So far about 5 to 7 hours.

But think of it this way: what have been your longest gaming marathon days?  I know I’ve kept ALL my xboxes on for well over 8 hours on days I went hog on gaming.

And now that I can play off screen on I’m iPad I’m leaving it on for easily 8+ hours while playing remotely and on the big screen.

Good point, hmmm I wonder if I can do that with my android phone and play at work (assuming on screen controls are usable) may have to investigate that lol

Keep in mind that I can only play when I’m connected to my home network. Also this is a new app that was created which basically allows iOS users to do the same thing that windows 10 users have been able to do with remote play. No idea about the android platform, sorry. I posted another thread with a little review around the app I use, It is called OneCast, maybe they have an android version of the same app?

Oh, and just to make a point I am currently AFK fishing while running errands. LOL I’ll probably be away for no more than an hour right now, but I have to say that this feature is amazing for when I might want to take a nap, watch some television, take my daughter to get braces yesterday, I’ll kinds of stuff! ??

Always on yes but not always under load. Heat reduces your console lifespan and the longer cooler is working the shorter will it last.

Yeah I am afk strength training at mo while I do the list of tasks that make me wish I wasnt an adult lol
(theres a good thread on here about afk strength training if your unfamilier with it...its essentially: get a cheap trade good from the trade merchant so your character is hunched over, go to the map "enter" the town so the map is zoomed in, set a loop way point Lt+x one corner of town, same again another corner so it goes in a green looped track, then press left stick in once back in game to auto run the route...go make coffee, feed the cat, wash up, hoover...etc etc )

You are not wrong, I actually work in the technology sector, but ultimately I still stand by my example comparing how long we marathon game as an example of using the console at high load for long stretches.

Also, AFK fishing at the docks, even with 50 other players there is going to be less load and heat generated by the system then actively out adventuring. (Aka less processing)

The Xbox consumes less power and generates less heat than a standard pc, and is MUCH less than a gaming pc. I typically leave my xbox on 24/7 with no issues tho probably 4-5 hours of that is for gaming.

Gaming PC has much higher quality components. For example gtx 1030 is trash and cant stand heat at all while gtx 1080 has no issues working at 85 degrees celcius because components used are of much higher quality. I know Xbox is not comparable to 1030 but i wanted to give an example. At the end of the day the rule still applies - under load reduces lifespan and if you dont mind reducing it for afk then go ahead. How long will it last depends on how high quality silicon you got since every chip is different.

It's safe to turn off your tv, it will not effect your afk abilities. Ive left my xbox on 24/7 since launch. Fishing at night, and training strength for the 9-12 hours im gone for work. Console is still relatively cool to touch. Does not feel hotter then it would with just a few hours of play time. The one X is handling afk duties superbly!

My Xbox one S has been logged in and on for 3 weeks now. No issues at all. No over heating etc. I haven't turned it off or put it in standby in over a month.

I leave my one X on for afk activities and turn off my tv. No problem cause the game is actually doing "something" to keep it running.

To save your console's life and lower the strain while afk start your cooking/fishing/processing and then open the town map. This will stop the world from rendering and unload your console from unnecessary hustle.

Yes, since I'm playing on a 4K HDR monitor. I also opened the map, which seems to be reducing rendering power on the XBox. The fan is at least always off with this method.

First. Switch to a monitor. Tv gaming is terrible. Second its definitely safe. If you dont turn it off id suggest setting it to sleep when idle. Once xbox kicks into afk mode where your friends pop up it wills end the monitor into idle
