I'm on an Xbox One X with a 55" Sony Bravia 4K HDR TV, set on "Gaming" mode. 4k HDR is turned on in the Black Desert game settings.
this is nighttime to me: https://xboxdvr.com/gamer/jaymadiv/screenshot/11731110 <---it's darker in the screenshot than it actually is on my TV. Nightime on my TV is basically...well, fog would be the best way to describe it. It's grey, not dark. I'm not sure why the actual screenshot came out so dark cause it's not nearly that dark ingame while i am playing. If it were actually that dark, this thread would not exist. so now I am confused.
I was under the impression that night time was supposed to be REALLY dark, so much so that you need a light, and that has not been my experience at all. any ideas on what settings I need to change to fix this and make the game look like it is supposed to?
I have found this too. In certain caves it will get almost pitch, but running through the woods is always bright enough to even see the monsters that blend in.
I am running on the original XBOX One on a 60" Sharp 1080p TV, so it's not the 4k or HDR that is causing the issue of brightness. There is not a gamma or brightness control anywhere that I have been able to find.

If you change it to 1080, and rgb full in your settings on xbox it gets really dark. Also contrast settings will change that.
My 4k hdr is the same as you describe. Its not really dark at all during the night.
Amd during the day, if you look up its relly beight and the sky blue and clods just kinda mix together. Is that the same for you?
But I would caution to have PA ‘fix’ this. Cause it can go real bad with HDR. Dark can become pitch black and light can become the surface of the sun. Seen it in plenty of other games.

Do you think if I maxed out the HDR Contrast, it would help? Currently it is set at about 115-120 i don't quite remember. I did the whole "move slider until the icon disappears" thing, and what I posted was the result.
The game is REALLY EFFIN PRETTY in 4k, and I really don't wanna go down to 1080p if I can avoid it. But I also want the night time to look the way it was intended to.

So with bdo hdr settings turn hdr contrast to 150 and hdr max brightness to 500, that should give you really dark nights, especially if you do that on your TVs settings as well.
Well if you sit back around 8 feet depending on the size of your TV it's really hard to tell 1080 from 4k. The pop ins are way closer in 4k, and it's easy to tell 30hz from 60hz, but texture it is hard, that is assuming you have a TV that can do 1080 some TVs cant that are 4k 1080 looks really bad. So I definitely understand. I dont think you are gonna get those dark nights with out full RGB PC mode in settings, which doesnt work with hdr. It might work with 4k I never tried that though. Maybe try disabling hdr in the xbox settings and leaving 4k on, while leaving 4k on in black desert, it might force it to rgb 4k. It looks though black desert didnt separate 4k from hdr.
Also if your TV has a dark level setting put that on low, try turning off dynamic contrast, and lower the brightness while raising the contrast. Generally lower brightness higher contrast equals darker nights.
I understand the desire for dark nights but keep in mind this is a mmo. If you can't see but everyone else can your putting yourself at a huge disadvantage

This. I believe as much as we want realism and immersion, if night was pitch dark and we needed to use fireflys just to see 10 feet, you would be a easy kill to mospd or players.
Plus, not sure I wanna see a bunch of nameplates in the dark...and not players.

You can read the wall, but man come on. We who use 4k already put our selves ar a disadvantage for a better picture.
Unless he is pvping with guilds, which arent that many there is no disadvantage. You literally can ignore pvp in this game they cant do anything. Not every one sits here and contemplates how to compete with you on black desert lol. Regardless why would you want to turn his post on how to get better nights for him in to a nonsense post about pvp. You dont honestly believe you are enlightening him do you ? Or is it you are so mind boggled by how some one would disadvantage them selves over you in a mmo.
You put your self at a disadvantage not spending 1000 a month on the game like some one else does. You put your self at a disadvantage by not having 2 xboxs or more running at the same time with one always grinding, extra look outs ect. You put your self at a disadvantage by not having a 4k oled from Sony with the lowest input lag and response time there is at 1080 120hz, while having a 150 dollar xbox. You also need high end GB fiber, and move next to the server. All those would be way way more of a advantage over some one than darker nights.
You go down that nonsensical path of destruction instead of enjoying it for you, it's over lol. So you keep in mind competing with people over black desert where the pvp is meaningless as the monsters kills, you might lose it haha.

eh, it wouldn't help me much I'm generally pretty trash in PVP anyway.
I want my games to look the best they can, i know most players would generally be willing to play on absolute **** graphic settings if it gave them even the smallest advantage in PVP, but I am not one of those people.
I don't want the game to be unplayable, but I do want it to look the way the developers intended it to look. and it looks off to me, which is why i was asking for advice on how to correct it.
also, I am well aware of what a MMO entails.

Well...dark is good for me in 4k hdr. I hce to use a firefly most the time, yet can see mobs fine.
I think the point was trying to make, is that regardless if you pvp or not, if you push over to 50, you are open to PK by other players. And if you plan on going out to do your life skills at night, you can have a rel bad time when you can’t see ****.
So I think there probably still is some balancing to do with brightness and darkness in game, but not much.

yeah i understood his point. i'm prepared to be ganked more than a few times. but my issue with the hdr settings still stands.
