Hero of the Black Shrine, an Interview with PetchllZ!

Greetings Adventurer!

Thank you for joining us for another 'Hero of the Black Shrine' interview. This is a series focused on showcasing the incredible prowess of exceptional players in our community who have conquered the daunting bosses of the Black Shrine at the highest difficulty: Calamity 7.

Today, we would like to honor the finesse of the Desert's Mirage who has tamed the Ruler of Taebaek. [GM]Vaha has paid a visit to the Tiger's Palace in mountanous peaks near Dabeol village to meet up with PetchllZ, the Prophetic Hashashin, to ask a few questions. We hope to gain some perspective on their thoughts & insights concerning these Boss Blitz battles to see if we may learn some tips & tricks to utilize against the Relentless Tyrant, Sangoon!

Hello! I am so honored and excited to meet your acquaintance! Could you please briefly introduce yourself?

PetchllZ

My name is Petch, BBYG you can call me BB and I am an avid player of Black Desert Online. I have dedicated countless hours to mastering the intricacies of the game, achieving notable accomplishments along the way. My top achievements would have to be grinding for all 3 PEN Deboreka accessories, and ontop of that - finishing the Rich Merchant Ring. For Lifeskilling, I also have completed 2 Carracks with blue gear and attained +10 gear for them both. I'm trying doing everything in the game and enjoyed it!

Is this class your main and how long have you been playing on it? (History about previous classes is welcome as well!)

PetchllZ

I have been dedicated to mastering the Hashasin class in Black Desert Online, making it my main character for 2 years. Prior to this, I explored various classes, each contributing to my overall understanding of the game's mechanics. I started with Warrior before awakening update then tried Mystic, Lahn, Sorceress, Sage, Kunoichi, and Maegu when she was released. I am now settling with Hashashin and Ninja as my tagged class to practice a high intensity classes. My journey through these different classes has provided me with a well-rounded perspective and valuable insights into the diverse gameplay experiences offered by Black Desert Online!

Looking into the records, you are the World's first clear of Sangoon at Calamity 7! How long did it take you to triumph in this fight? (and then How long did it take to lock-in a top time?)

How would you rate Sangoon's difficulty compared to the other Calamity 7's you've beaten since then?

PetchllZ

The first time around, Calamity 7 was very challenging took me around 4-5 hours to finally beat, but it was a very fun experience as it allowed me to refine my approach, optimizing every aspect of the boss encounter. Sangoon is not so hard for me now because even if his attack hits like rock, you can evade them if you understand his mechanics. Anyway, I still find it very fun to challenge him every week!

What was your general strategy when approaching this battle against Sangoon? What do you think is the most crucial mechanic to keep in mind during the fight?

PetchllZ

My approach to the Sangoon battle involved a meticulous strategy focused on maintaining close proximity to him so I can quickly adjust my positioning whenever he swipes around to attack me. The most crucial mechanic to keep in mind during the fight is to always fight him around the edges of the map, or later in the center of the arena or to avoid the falling debris throughout the fight. And finally, the last phase is about how well you can do maximum damage before he enrages to deal one massive fatal attack against you. Mastering these aspects of the fight is instrumental in achieving success! Adapting to the dynamic nature of the encounter and executing precise movements throughout the encounter were pivotal elements to my strategy versus Sangoon.

Are there any important attack animations to watch out for? Dangerous Voice-lines to be wary of? Or perhaps key health break-points for when Sangoon will include new mechanics?

PetchllZ

Listening and watching for his voicelines helps a lot. It will help identify key points when Sangoon will perform specific attacks. For example, if you see the phrase "a chill down your spine", he will charge up an attack that must be disrupted so that you will have a window to push for a lot of damage. Another crucial voiceline to be careful about will be the phrase "kill all that stand on two feet", and for this mechanic you must take refuge behind some of the fallen rock debris around the map to avoid the massive attack Sangoon unleashes from the middle of the area. Keep your class buff and use during the last phase to rush Sangoon down! Forward Guard and Super Armor at the right times to resist his various Crowd Control effect attacks.

During your battle with Sangoon, he becomes increasingly ferocious and causes rock debris to drop onto the arena. Do you have any tips on how to strategically maneuver these obstacles and maybe use them to your advantage against Sangoon?

PetchllZ

Just as I mentioned before always try to keep him at the center of the map, this way you only need to an i-frame when big rock drops down on the center every once in a while versus the continual hectic dodging you must do if you hug the edges of the arena!

The cadence of Sangoon's fight becomes manageable after some bouts against him but he is known to be very unforgiving if he is able to catch you with one of his massive attacks. Of the mechanics and attacks mentioned, which one was the most difficult to manage during this boss fight in your opinion?

PetchllZ

Most people may be struggling on two points so I will explain in detail. Firstly concerning his massive attacks, you will need to focus when he jumps back a little because you must be poised for what he will do next. If he pounces back at you then you must to prepare to counter him because this is an easy phase to push for damage on Sangoon. In the same way if you missed and got hit by his bite it almost guarantees that you are going to die. Next is most difficult part during his last phase, you will need to hit him hard enough to kill him before he can one shot you. Understanding your class' combos and maximizing your damage potential is crucial to clearing!

What do you think was one of your class' greatest strengths when approaching this boss battle? And what motivated you to keep striving towards overcoming the highest difficulty of Sangoon?

PetchllZ

For Hashashin, 100% it must be the Sandstorms. It is an incredibly powerful tool and can help provide damage even while I am focused on evading Sangoon. It is also worth mentioning that Hashashin's animations are very quick so you can attack even when you have a the smallest bit of respite to do so.
