The ancient records speak of a monstrous automaton that sleeps beneath the Scarlet Sand Chamber. The chamber remained sealed while the creature slumbered, and lay hidden beneath the sands of time, its location a mystery to all. 

However, some Adventurers have reported to have heard a deep, rumbling sound around the Deserted City of Runn. A thunderous, rhythmic beat shakes the ground beneath their very feet, and it seems the once lost Scarlet Sand Chamber has opened. It would seem the Ancient Kutum has awoken from his slumber.

The Scarlet Sand Chamber

Kutum rests in the Scarlet Sand Chamber located north of the Barhan Gateway at the entry point of Valencia.

Once you enter the Scarlet Sand Chamber, the path splits into two, with both passageways heading to the heart of the chamber, where the Ancient Kutum awaits.

Defeating Kutum

Kutum is an ancient creation shaped like a worm. At its center, an ancient fragment beats and brings life to the ancient creature.

With half its body planted in the ground, Kutum attacks using its massive rocky body to slam or sweep the ground. Once angered, the beast will change up its attack patterns, so caution is urged when facing the boss.


Kutum will occasionally dig itself into the ground and target one adventurer. As it tunnels underground, dust clouds will form at the adventurer unlucky enough to have gained Kutum’s attention. Spread out to avoid the large area of effect damage it inflicts. 

Kutum will also suck adventurers in, which will deal continuous damage to those foolish enough to linger near its gaping mouth. Make sure to steer clear of the red circles.

Kutum inflicts his most dangerous attack by digging into the ground and shooting bolts of lightning through the sands. As soon Kutum buries his head, run away as fast as you can because this attack will seriously hurt. 

Knowledge of Kutum

You can gain Knowledge about the Ancient Kutum from Desalam, the node manager for Scarlet Sand Chamber. Talking to her will give a series of quests that, once completed, will unlock knowledge of Kutum.

Rewards

When defeating Kutum, there is a chance to acquire the Kutum’s Sealed Sub-weapon Box. This deadly weapon is of the highest available grade, increases AP and DP, offers 2 empty crystal slots, ignores resistances and inflicts extra AP against monsters. This makes it ideal for taking on monsters out in the world of Black Desert.
